Program Details

The After-School Education and Safety Program (ASES) is a state grant-funded program aimed at improving student performance in school and providing a safe environment for students after school.

The program focuses on:

  • Developing student voice through projects and peer interaction
  • Providing students with the opportunity to explore STEAM activities
  • Giving students time to work on homework, explore interests, and participate in physical development activities

Program Hours

  • School days only from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m.

Program Fees

  • The Teen Scene ASES program is free aside from a $75 registration fee collected at the beginning of the school year (fee waived for income-eligible families)

Locations

  • Teen Scene ASES is available at Roosevelt, Toll, and Wilson Middle Schools

Enrollment Priorities

  1. Foster/homeless youth
  2. Children of GUSD staff
  3. Returning Teen Scene ASES/RAP students
  4. New Teen Scene ASES/RAP students

If a program is full, a waiting list will be maintained for that site, and spaces will be offered as they become available.

Attendance and Participation

  • Students are expected to be responsible for their conduct and whereabouts during program hours
  • Students must report to the designated program area within 10 minutes of the dismissal bell
  • Students who fail to report will be counted as absent
  • Students who will regularly leave before 6:00 p.m. must have a Long-Term Early Release Form on file. You may select as many options as apply to your student. If you do not have a planned activity, we suggest that you mark “in the best interest of the family” on the form
  • Students are encouraged to take part in school-based sports and clubs; students must have parents sign an Excused Activity Permission Slip prior to being able to participate
