Glendale Unified School District offers dual immersion in seven languages beginning in kindergarten. Students who to continue in the dual language immersion program for middle school take a language arts class in their target language as an elective. Two of the district’s dual immersion pathways lead to Wilson Middle School: Armenian and Japanese.
Dual language immersion classes are taught by fully-biliterate, credentialed teachers. Students are expected to be at medium to advanced proficiency in their target language when entering middle school courses.
Students are encouraged to continue taking advanced language courses at the high school level. Every dual immersion language is taught as an elective and most languages offer a capstone exam for potential college credit. Students are also eligible to earn the State Seal of Biliteracy in their target language.
