Promotion Requirements/Honor Roll

Promotion Requirements

Students must meet minimum Credit/promotion requirements to promote to the 9th grade. To participate in the ceremony and other activities (including Magic Mountain, 8th-grade dance, etc.):

1. A student must earn a minimum of 100 credits in grades 7 and 8 combined to complete the middle school program. 8th-grade students who have more than two failing second-semester marks may lose the privilege to participate in some or all of the promotion activities.

2. A student must meet appropriate curriculum content standards to be recommended for promotion to the 9th grade at the completion of 8th grade. Students not promoting may be required to attend summer school at the high school.

3. A student may not have more than four unsatisfactory ratings (U’s) in 8th grade for behavior with no more than two of the U’s earned during the second semester of the 8th grade.

Honor Roll

may strive to reach Torch and Laurel or Sharpest Image designation. Special recognition is given at promotion and awards night. Requirements: For 3 Semesters (both semesters  of  7th Grade and 1st  Semester of 8th Grade)

TORCH AND LAUREL AWARD

• 3.6 cumulative GPA or better all 3 semesters

• No U’s or N’s in citizenship any semester

SHARPEST IMAGE AWARD
• 4.0 cumulative GPA all 3 semesters

• No U’s or N’s in citizenship any semester

• Completion of 8th Grade Project

Torch & Laurel/Sharpest Image Beach Trip

Students may attend the annual beach trip if they meet the following requirements. For 6th Graders, the 1st semester grade of 6th grade determines eligibility for the beach trip. For 7th graders, the first semester of 7th grade determines eligibility for the beach trip.  For 8th graders, the previous three semesters determine eligibility for the beach trip.
